There are many ideas of how to make money on the internet but which ones are real? Which ones have clear steps and predictable results? Lets take a look.

First, if you look into ads that promise you the moon requiring little or no effort, you can most likely assume it’s a scam. We all know that success takes dedication, commitment and focus. There are no free lunches out there.

Secondly, don’t just go for the money. Find something that excites you. Make sure your heart is in it. Choose something that interests you. If you aren’t loving what you are doing you will be unlikely to succeed. Find a business idea that resonates with your values. If you find a good company that sells vitamins but you really aren’t that passionate about health and wellness, then that probably isn’t the right choice for you.

If you want to learn to be a successful entrepreneur and you want to make money over the internet you’ll have to do some research. Don’t just jump on the first thing that comes along unless of course you’ve checked it out thoroughly and you know you’ve found what fits your criteria. Usually it takes a while to get clear on what you want and what you know you’ll be successful doing.

So here are a few tips on what to look for in a viable internet home business that with commitment and consistency will make you money online.

*Products that deliver value, more value than the cost of the product.

*Outstanding leadership in the CEO or founders of the company

*Direct Sales compensation plan with commissions in the thousands paid directly to the consultant/representative

*Make sure you make money your first sale. Avoid the “two-up” compensation plan.

*Look for phenomenal marketing and mindset training from the top income earners in the company.

*Make sure there’s a robust marketing system in place that takes a lot of the day to day tasks and automates them.

* Not only do you want phenomenal training from the top income earners, the marketing system needs to have it’s own extensive training.

When you ahve done all your research and you have chosen a company that you are excited about then it’s time to take action and jump in. Watch out for the “getting ready to get ready” syndrome and learn as you go. It’s progress not perfection that you’re after. Commit and be consistent and visualize yourself achieving your biggest dreams.

Yes, I did go for another bike ride yesterday, another long one up to Ashcroft near Aspen. It was definitely a challenge that’s for sure. The day before it seemed easy, and yesterday it felt like I was missing a gear

I’ve been recounting my cycling forays into the back-country valleys here near Aspen as an introduction to my tips on what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.

In a way you could say, “How is your cycling like your life?” I often say to my students, when I’m teaching skiing, “notice if there are any similarities between your approach to sliding down the mountain and how you live your life.” So bringing that analogy into any sport, including cycling, I’m sure has value.

So yesterday I cycled up to Ashcroft, up Castle Creek Valley near Aspen. In 1883 Ashcroft, a former silver mining town, was booming. It had 20 saloons a newspaper and a school. Shallow silver deposits, and a motherlode discovered in Aspen, prompted its residents to leave. By 1885 the town went bust. By 1939 the last resident died thus making it a ghost town. Now only a few old log buildings remain.

In summers tourists come and visit and let their imaginations stroll through days gone by, cyclists speed by eyes on the road, and a tour guide entertains visitors, relishing his/her days among these magnificent ragged mountain peaks.

In my mind I briefly entered the mining world as it might have been more than a century ago as I came around the last corner. Parking my bike by the Ashcroft sign, I was very happy to be up over that last long steep hill. After taking off my headset, having listen to inspiring dialogue all the way up the valley, and taking a long draw of fresh water from my Camelback, I headed for the only big tree near the road to get some shade. I was hot and tired. I munched on a Cliff Bar and soon had my camera out trying, unsuccessfully, to capture the beauty around me. What a great ride.

There were times along the way that I said to myself, well, I’ve come far enough. I can turn around here before this next big long steep hill. I’ve had enough exercise. Many people don’t even do what I just did. I can take it easy today. But my goal was to go to Ashcroft. That was my clear goal when I started. Was I going to quit on myself? Was I going to listen to justifications on why not to achieve my goal

There was a brief moment there as I was crossing the bridge over Castle Creek looking up that hill that I know seems to go forever when you’re on it, when I hesitated. Just like business, there can be moments of doubt or frustration. I’ve learned to ask myself, will this choice take me closer or further away from my goal? That question to myself keeps me on track.

My goal being to get in great shape this summer and shed at least 20 pounds, I tuned in and thought to myself, it’s just a little further, Ashcroft is just at the top of this hill, I can do it.

In business being positive is so important. That “I can attitude” even when you’re tired and discouraged, is key. So as I look at my life, I see I’m a trooper, I don’t give up. I stick to it until I’ve reached my goals. How is what you do in your life in one area the same as what you do in other areas? It works in the reverse too. Change one area of your life and you’ll find that other areas clear up as well

Please leave me a comment in the box below. I would love to hear from you. I look forward to reading what comes to your mind on this topic. Tell me about your life. Are you an entrepreneur? If not are you sick of your life the way it is and looking for a business you can do from home so you can have more freedom? I look forward to hearing from you, Martha

Today I decided to ride my bike up to Maroon Bells, outside of Aspen, or actually half way. It’s quite a grunt and I realized I didn’t have enough water with me to go all the way. A good excuse anyway. It’s similar to cycling up Castle Creek to Ashcroft, about 11 miles up the valley, starting at about 8,000 feet and it goes to Maroon Lake at 9580 feet. The first half is relatively easy, well, it’s not flat that’s for sure, but every turn you come around it gets steeper, especially after half way. You can check out my video. I was really worried because in one of my last videos it was really windy and you could hardly hear me, and it was pretty windy up there so I started yelling into the camera and waiting to talk until the gusts had gone.

On my way up the road I listened to an old fashioned cassette tape, (I’m using mp3 now on my iphone when it’s easy), of a conference call I recorded last week. I was reminded of a few important things when building a home business. Two in particular. First, you have to be committed. You can’t take on a business and not be committed 100%. Treating it like a hobby of course will get you no where. You can’t even say you’ll just try it and see if it will work. You have to kill any other options than staying with it until you achieve success. That will put you on the right path. You’ll do whatever it takes.

Another important tip is to be consistent. It’s like going to the gym. To achieve results you have to keep at it. You have to have a plan and stick to it. The second half of the year starts July 1st. Time to reevaluate your business, and make a plan for the next 6 months. What are your goals for the next 6 months, 3 months, month, week. What will you do daily?

And don’t expect it to be smooth sailing. Some days will be great, others will have struggles, some will be up one moment and down the next. You just have to decide if your worth it. It “Ain’t all sunshine and rainbows” as Sylvester Stallone says in Rocky Balboa.

So anyway, check out the great view of The Maroon Bells in my short windy video, and the photo I took last summer, and if there’s anything I can do to help you in your business please let me know.

Blog post

It’s Father’s Day and my son, Yuri’s 28th birthday. He was actually born on Father’s Day. He’s in Mali, West Africa in the Peace Corps. (His blog is still-traveling.blogspot.com if you’re interested in checking it out; he takes great photos.) I called him this morning at 6 here in Colorado. It was noon there. He was celebrating with friends, making pancakes, a delicacy there for sure, and very excited about having his precious maple syrup he’d been saving that my sister, Jane, who lives in Quebec sent him. It cost her probably 10 times the cost of the syrup to send it, but in Yuri’s eyes it sure was worth it.

I met Yuri’s dad, Marty, and his girlfriend, Jo Lyn, at the gondola. We’re all friends so we do things together occasionally. Marty hadn’t spoken to Yuri yet so he called him on his cell in the gondola. What a hoot, riding in a gondola to go skiing with my x and his girlfriend and talking to our son in Africa on his birthday/Father’s Day, and it’s mid June.

The mountain opened, for the first time ever this late, on Friday, (although I heard roomers that they might open it next weekend). It opened earlier than the last two days as the temperatures in the early morning rose from just below freezing to maybe low 40’s. Today, we got close to 80 in the afternoon. It was so strange walking over to the gondola with my ski boots on, skis on my shoulder, passing people in shorts and t shirts while everything is green, leaves are out and it’s nearly summer.

On my first runs, starting about 9:20 the snow up on the top of the mountain was fairly firm, scratchy and icy in the shadows, and overall really great. The best run for me was a bump run called Dipsy. It took me a while to get my rhythm back, but I really enjoyed the challenge of skiing soft bumps.

By 11:30 I was done. The snow was getting slushy and more difficult to manage, and I was getting hungry.

I’m tired and it’s late so a short post. I’m so grateful for my day. I hope you had a special Father’s Day as well.

Martha

Today I went on a bike ride up Castle Creek Road; it’s about 11 miles uphill. I started at mile 4 to avoid traffic, although I found there wasn’t much. What a glorious day! It’s uphill most of the way. There are a few welcomed flats and a few places I can actually coast for a minute and take a breather. I started at about 8,000 feet and went to 9500. It was gorgeous! The temperature was 68 when I left Aspen, and 57 when I got back to my car 2 hours later. The sun dipped behind the ridge on half of the ride back which made it pretty chilly. Luckily I brought my fleece, my windbreaker and these long black legging things that you pull on each leg, and I was toasty coming down. One moment that really got my attention is when I went by a stand of trees, backlit by the sun, that was just sprouting these lime green leaves. Each leaf glistened, a whole mountainside of glistening baby leaves was spectacular. And then of course the snow-covered peaks at the end of the valley were breathtaking too.

As for what I learned today, to take a breath and just be present, really still inside so I could really enjoy my surroundings. To help me still my mind I say “I am” to myself. Sometimes I’m so present when I do that, and other times less so. It’s a great practice that I’m doing a lot more of after reading Eckhart Tolle’s “A New Earth”.

As for something related to my business and being an entrepreneur that I’ve learned, is that what’s most important to me is who I become in the process of creating success for myself which includes my focus on giving back to others. Really it’s tracking what brings me joy as that is a great guidepost for me and my growth as a person. Secondly, and as a result of my success in becoming a more aware and giving person, I am being rewarded in many ways, one of them being financially.

Tomorrow Aspen Mountain opens, believe it or not, for a weekend of skiing. We’ll take the gondola up, ski on a number of intermediate runs at the top, have some Bar-B-Que
out on the deck enjoy being high up on the mountain, and I’ll see many of my friends. It’ll be a fun social day and it’s June 14th and 15th! Wow! This is the latest the mountain has ever opened for a weekend. We had such a phenomenal snow year this year; there are still 3 feet of snow up there.

I hope your weekend is fantastic.

I welcome any comments.

Blessings,

Martha
